HMS SULTAN

HMS Sultan is the home of all Naval Marine Engineering and as such, I have returned there on numerous occasions.

The last time I returned to HMS Sultan was in August 2007 when I was working at MCTA. I had a number of courses to complete as part of my re-training back to General Service and to subsequently join HMS Cornwall.

This was an interesting series of courses that started with Ad Struct, a 5 week course concentrating on ships structure and weak points. After finishing this, it was back into the workshops sticking copper pipes together and then cutting them up to see how well they were brazed.

Other courses completed at HMS Sultan were CPOMEM Career Course, Departmental Coordinator Course, UMMS Planner Course, Work Place Risk Assessors Course, Type 22/42 Course, NVQ Assessors Course and finally ADSLING Course.

This took me up to Christmas before I started the 5 week Advanced Fire Fighting Course at HMS Phoenix on Whale Island.

Once this was completed, I felt adequately prepared to join HMS Cornwall in Belfast
